Hunger Pains

Everyone always asks me what Bulgarian food is. I’ve always answered in very bland and generic terms such as “delicious”, “diverse”, and the like. I apologize. I’m a terrible cook, and a worse describer-of-food. I specialize in eating instead!

Anyway, here’s a good-faith attempt to remedy the situation somewhat. This winter, when I was visiting family in Bulgaria for the holidays, I took some (very few) pictures of the feasts. I’ve included a few here. [Note: not pictured is the entire whole pig that was cooked and eaten. Yum.]

Enjoy:

… and when they approached the little house they saw that it was built of bread and covered with cakes, but that the windows were of clear sugar. “We will set to work on that,” said Hansel, “and have a good meal. I will eat a bit of the roof, and you Gretel, can eat some of the window, it will taste sweet.”
